ChatGPT Ads Launch in 31 European Countries
On August 24, 2026, ChatGPT Ads became available in 31 more European countries — including Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Here is exactly what changed, who it reaches, and how European advertisers can get in.

What changed
Before August 24, ChatGPT Ads served in nine self-serve markets — the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Brazil and Mexico. The European expansion adds 31 countries to the serving map, turning the ads surface from an English-first beta into a genuinely pan-European channel.
The mechanics stay identical to the existing markets: ads appear as a separate block below ChatGPT's response, clearly labeled as sponsored. They do not influence the model's answer — the organic response and the ad card run on separate systems.
Who sees ads — and who doesn't
Ads serve to logged-in users on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education plans remain ad-free — the same tier split as the original markets. If your customer base sits on paid ChatGPT plans, the ad surface does not reach them; if your buyers use the free product for research, the new European inventory is a meaningful expansion.
How European advertisers can buy — for now
At launch on August 24, European advertisers accessed the program through OpenAI's advertising solutions team, partner agencies, and technology partners — a managed path rather than self-serve. On August 31, 2026, OpenAI opened beta self-serve Ads Manager access directly to advertisers across all 31 European markets (plus India and 11 Middle East & North Africa markets). Businesses registered in an approved category can now create an account at ads.openai.com — the same terms as the rest of the platform, with ads cleared against OpenAI's policy checks.
In parallel, OpenAI continues building out its own advertising platform where companies launch campaigns independently — setting budgets, choosing bids, and tracking performance. For advertisers entering early, that meant two doors at the August 24 start: partner-managed now, self-serve within a week.
What it means for advertisers
- Localized inventory. German, French, Spanish, and Italian conversations now have native ad supply — localization matters more than ever.
- Eligibility is expanding. If your business is based in one of the new markets, the managed path is open today — check our eligibility checker.
- Tracking still comes first. The ad card is new; the measurement discipline is not. Pixel and Conversions API setup before spend remains non-negotiable.
